GERD?: Gerd can cause lots of coughing with thick mucus. Moreover, many folks with gerd also have sleep apnea, which can cause lots of sleep problems. You should definitely see your doc about this as both can have a serious impact on your health.

Color of mucus?: If it is clear then would not worry too much. However, we still cannot rule out a viral versus bacterial infection based on the color of the mucous.
If things don't get better in a week then we start to worry about bacterial infection. Then you need to seek phsyician input.
