Fracture at bone end: Long bones are divided into three areas. The shaft is called the diaphysis. The end is called the epiphysis and the transitional zone between these two is called the metaphysis. The epiphysis is where the growth plate is located in kids and is a common place for fractures. In adults, an epiphyseal fracture involves the joint surface. These fractures usually require treatment.
