Who you ask: Most endocrinologists, don't prescribe dessicated thyroid hormone. Pills have inconsistent concentrations of t3, (liothyronine) though i understand it has improved. The body is still able to make its own T3 (liothyronine) out of the T4 used in levothyroxine preparation. This process occurs outside of thyroid gland also. Having too much T3 (liothyronine) on board can make one hyperthyroid with both short and long term complications.

No: All the national thyroid/endocrine associations recommend levothyroxine.
