Why should a blood prressure not be taken in a particular arm ?

Dr. Bennett Werner answered

Various reasons: Women who have had a mastectomy with removal of lymph nodes should avoid it as the arm can be easily injured by the cuff. Those with known arterial blockage in the shoulder (subclavian) arteries should avoid it because it will be inaccurate. Those are the only 2 reasons i can think of.

Dr. Calvin Weisberger answered

Blood pressure: The usual method is with a cuff over the upper arm and the stethoscope located over the brachial artery at the elbow end of the biceps muscle. It is possible to record a less accurate blood pressure in the wrist with the cuff on the forearm.
