Corneal abrasion: Corneal abrasions are very painful, cause blurred vision and light sensitivity, and most often caused by trauma or foreign body. See an eye doctor.

Pain and water: Pain, watering, foreign body sensation are classic symptoms. However these are symptoms for other conditions as well. An exam of the eye is needed for definitive diagnosis.

Can I wear contacts with a scratched cornea?

Maybe: Sometimes, we use a bandage soft contact lens with antibiotics to reduce pain and irritation in patients with corneal abrasions. As a matter of practice, most patients should wear glasses until completely healed. Best to check with your ophthalmologist.

Typically, 24 hours: The cornea turns over new cells every 24 hours, so typically a scratch will heal withing 24-48 hours, depending on how deep the scratch may be. You also need to be concerned that there is still not a foreign body present in the eye or the eye becomes infected. If your vision is affected, the pain increases, symptoms not improving, the eye is getting more red or is matted in the am, see your doc.
