Get a check up.: Extremes of ages are always susceptible to contracting diseases, especially the communicable ones. The causative organism being not known in this brief, it could be anything from bacteria, fungi, viruses or worse mycobacteria or others; each category itself being vast. On the contrary it could be simply seasonal adeno or RSV infection manfesting as bronchospasm and cough. Diagnosis is important.

Need more info: Were this my child, i believe the reasonable actions to take would be to have my 5 Y.O. Child examined immediately and obtain information as to the cause of the dead child's demise.
