Possibly: Referred pain from the knee can cause ankle and thigh pain. The first thing to determine is why you have fluid in the knee. If trauma was involved, it's important to evaluate the entire extremity for injury. If no trauma was involved, you may need to see a rheumatologist for further evaluation.
