Dr. Jeffrey Bassman

PT varies: Physical therapy for TMJ should be used with caution and a sufferer should really be evaluated prior to using home remedies. The cause (source, ) duration and severity of the tmj/tmd symptoms must be understood to know what pt can be most effective. Pt and its effects varies from person to person and can also vary from days to months. See a specialist and take the guessing away.
Dr. James Courey

Helps With Pain: It is very important keep in mind that TMJ physical therapy was designed to reduce symptoms of tmj, physical therapy by itself cannot cure the TMJ problem. Some include cervical mobilization exercises, TMJ mobility exercises, TMJ stability exercises, etc. On the whole, these exercises form a thorough program for people experiencing TMJ disorder pain.

Core strengthening: Once you get the ok to exercise from your doctor, work on strengthening your abs and back muscles which will be protective of your spine. You need to do them in a way so as to not cause pain or other injury. Best to work with a physical therapist to develop a home exercise program.

What are some physical therapy exercises for the deltoid?

2 doctor answers3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Bryan Levey
Pediatrics 27 years experience
Many: Front and lateral shoulder raises work the anterior and medial deltoid. Certain rows work the posterior deltoid. Use a resistance band or a very light weight and don't over do. You really need someone to teach you this stuff in person, hands on, so you don't get injured.

What are some techniques in physical therapy for disc herniation?

1 doctor answer3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Danny Proffitt
Family Medicine 43 years experience
Depends: Usually stretching and range of motion. There are very specific programs for therapy in disc herniation. Some are flexion exercises, some are extention exercises. A lot would depend on the level of the disc, the symptoms, your general condition and health and the presscription given by your doctor. Some therapist use computer guided machines very specific to the rehabilitation of the back.
