Is it necessary to take a childbirth education class?

No: Reading online makes it seem like everyone takes classes. The fact is though that most people do not take classes. They do just fine. What is right for some may not be right for you. We encourage patients to take them. Most couples find it beneficial, fun and anxiety relieving to learn about pregnancy and to emotionally and physically prepare for birth.
