Do i have to be awake for a skin biopsy? i am worried that i will have to have a biopsy done. i have never had any surgeries in my life and i am really afraid of needles. am i going to have to be awake for a biopsy?

If : If it is a simple skin biopsy, they would not put you under general anesthesia. I would try not to be so worried. Usually you will get a small injection of medication to numb the area before the biospy is done. Some biopsies are so small that they don't require this. Let your doctor know that you are fearful of needles.

The needles for injecting anesthetic are very fine (very much smaller than those used to draw blood), so it is almost like a mosquito bite or feel nothing at all. Once that is done, you shouldn't be able to feel any pain or discomfort from the biopsy procedure itself, if done properly. Compared to having blood drawn, a skin biopsy is often much less anxiety provoking for the needle adverse.
