Hello, Glaucoma : Hello, glaucoma tube shunt surgery is generally an outpatient procedure (you come in the morning and go home on the same day). Your doctor may consider an inpatient stay for one night or so if you have any health problems, e.g. Heart or lung, that would require overnight observation. Most patients don't have significant pain after the surgery. If there is some discomfort, it is controlled with eye drops and oral pain relievers. Generally, people don't have much pain after this procedure if there are no complications. Some complications if they occur may cause pain, e.g. Bleeding. Hope it help. Glaucoma : Glaucoma shunt surgery it self is not painful. The surgery is almost always done on an outpatient basis. However during the postop period, the patient may feel some discomfort from the stitches placed in the conjunctiva.
