Yes: There are definite risks to tegretol: spine defects and problems with the heart and urinary tract can happen along with cleft palate. There are risks to seizure in pregnancy as well: preterm delivery, fetal death and bleeding after a seizure. Overall, if Carbamazepine is the best medication for your seizures, you should continue it. Only about 4% of babies have problems due to this medicine.
