what are ways to treat spider veins?

Sclerotherapy & Lase: Spider veins are best treated with sclerotherapy in combination with laser ablation. However underlying venous disease may be better approaches with the endovenous laser or ligation.

Sclerotherapy: I feel that spider veins on the legs should be treated with sclerotherapy. Laser would be my second choice. If you have significant spider veins or symptoms such as swelling, heaviness, fatigue, ulcerations and even restless leg syndrome you should have a duplex ultrasound prior to treatmentwhich can show venous insufficiency. If you have venous insufficiency, treat it first.

SPider vein tx: I agree with dr. Hansen and placik , spider veins on the legs are probably best treated with sclerotherapy. Sometimes a combination of both laser and sclerotherapy is used on the legs, but sclerotherapy can treat veins of any size in the legs and laser is often not needed.
Dr. Sendhil Subramanian

Treatments: Main treatments are sclerotherapy and surface laser therapy.

Probably some: These should get better but may not completely disappear. The best way to manage these is to prevent them by wearing support hose during the pregnancy. Tell your friends!

I agree and wish that more Ob/gyn and family physicians that deliver babies would start patients on graduated compression stocking during pregnancy if they are developing visible or symptomativ veins.

Matting: When spider veins are treated you may develop smaller vessels at the area that were not noticeable before these can be treated with laser, but it may be difficult to eliminate them completely.

How do doctors treat a broken blood vessel?

Usually nothing: This depends on the cause of the "broken blood vessel". Loss of supporting tissue associated with "maturity", medications like Aspirin or non-steroidals, varicosities or local trauma are common causes. The "problem" is usually more cosmetic rather than clinical unless there's blood where it shouldn't be; the body usually takes care of this gradual absorption of the blood like a healing bruise.
