Yes: If the arthritis is bone on bone, yet limited to the medial or lateral compartment of the knee only, either an osteotomy, or a partial knee replacment may be indicated.

Yes: If the arthritis is limited to the patello-femoral joint, in selected cases a patello-femoral replacement can be considered.

Yes: Alternatives to total knee replacement include partial knee repalcement and osteotomy. Partial knee replacement is done if the arthritis is confined to only one part of the knee. Osteotomy is done if there is an angular deformity contributing to overloading of one side of the joint.

Yes: There are non operative treatments such as medications and injections. There are also other operative treatments such as realignment of the knee and partial knee replacement.

Possibly: In a 34 year no orthopedist would want to do a knee replacement. Taking age out of the equation, if the joint is end-stage, options are osteotomy and partial knee replacement.
