No: The preps are pretty much the same. There are all intended to evacuate the colon to reduce the "fecal load" and decrease the potential for infection.

Can you please tell me why it'simportant for a patient to open his/her bowel and pass wind after surgery?

Ileus/obstruction: Your docs need to know if your bowels are simply recovering from anesthesia, aka ileus or if you have a serious bowel obstruction. There are many imaging tests to help with this determination, however passing gas is reassuring your bowels are not obstructed.

Depends: This depends on how badly the problem is, and what the cause is. If you are considering this, get an opinion from a colorectal and/ or GYN surgeon with experience and training in pelvic floor disease. Ask about the risks and benefits, and keep in mind that those statistics will not predict the you're for you as an individual. They can help you make an informed decision though. Hope this helps!
