Isotretinoin : Isotretinoin (accutane, clarivis, sotret) changes the function of sebaceous (oil) glands, but does not destroy them. Dry skin from Isotretinoin can be prolonged, particularly when you have the additive effects of dry winter weather. Moisturize as needed, but use non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) lotions.

Ask your doctor: Isotretinoin is a highly effective treatment with lasting benefits. Most patients do not require any treatment for their acne after completing a standard course of isotrenoin therapy. A small percentage of patients will have a recurrence of their acne but even then it tends to occur a year or more after stopping isotretinoin. If that happens, consult your dermatologist.

Within 3 months: Acne can flare the first few months on isotretinoin. Most patients start to improve by 12 weeks. There are always a few patients who require more time to improve.
