Should a broken ankle still hurt after its been put in a cast?

Dr. David Hettinger
35 years experience in Podiatry
Probably: The cast is to stabilize and position the ankle in a proper position for healing. It also keeps you from re-injuring it. It does not eliminate the pain. Your pain should be managed by your treating physician - either with narcotic analgesics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaid's).
