A 31-year-old member asked:

is it possible for aaa repair to cause a hemopericardium?

Unlikely: Extremely unlikely. Aaas are below the diaphragm and separated from the pericardium.
Dr. Addagada Rao
General Surgery 56 years experience
Unlikely: AAA ( abdominal aortic aneurysm ) is unlikely to cause blood in the pericardium, ( hemopericardium ) possible in aortic arch aneurysms.
Dr. Kevin Nolan
Vascular Surgery 35 years experience
Hemopericardium?: In an open "surgical " repair central lines may be placed and the wires used to put them in may cause trouble like that. In many many repairs I have never heard of such an occurrence though.
Dr. Allen Kamrava
Colon and Rectal Surgery 15 years experience
Anything is possible, but I must agree with Dr. Nolan - this complication is rather rare. If it is a thoracic aneurysm, rather than an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) then different discussion.

How long is the recovery for a AAA repair?

Depends: Aaas can be fixed using either an open or endovascular technique. The open approach will take weeks to recover from while the endovascular approach may only take days to a week. The complexity of the repair and length of hospital stay will influence the recovery as well.
