A 31-year-old member asked:

does this sound like allergies or asthma if i have yellow mucus some days but no cold?

Maybe: But it could also be a sign of a respiratory infection.
Dr. Michael Zacharisen

Agree with Dr. Ramirez. With allergies, the mucus that is in the nose/throat overnight may be discolored in the morning due to oxidation from myeloperoxidase enzymes. With allergies, this mucus will become clear during the day. With infections, the mucus will continue to be discolored.
