Surgery or observe: If you are having no problems or symptoms you can leave the gallstone alone. If you are having upper abdominal discomfort, gas or bloating, upper abdominal pain or nausea after eating, then surgery would be indicated to remove the gallbladder.

R u having symptoms?: The only definitive treatment of gallbladder disease is to remove the "gallstone factory". Thankfully, this can usually be removed via out-patient laparoscopic surgery. Like all operations, there are risks and it is up to you and your surgeon to decide if the benefits of this operation outweigh the risks. However, if you have stones that are "silent"--not causing symptoms--we don't recommend rx.
