A 36-year-old member asked:
how long after having wisdom teeth pulled do you have to wait before you drinking alcoholic beverages?

Dr. Peter Karsant answered

Wisdom teeth: In my opinion at least 24 if not 48 hours. Having said that you do not want to mix alcohol with the pain meds that may be prescribed so be prudent and talk to your oral surgeon.

5-6 days: As long as you are healing normally with no complications you should be able to resume reasonable consumption of alcoholic beverages after 5-6 days with out hurting the healing process.

How long does it take to recover from having your wisdom teeth pulled?

Depends: Most people recover in two to three days providing all went well. If you develop infection or dry socket it can be longer or if you have underlying problems. I have had great results in speeding recovery by taking homeopathic arnica and hypericum. Those two remedies help reduce swelling and discomfort!

Depends: Sedation likely? Depends on location and degree of impaction and accesability. You could likely plan on about 2 hours from start to finish if sedation, but the actual time to get them all out could range from 20min to 1.5 hrs. Ask your provider.

Depends: If your dentist has recommended this because of a current problem, then do so quickly. If recommened as part of a good preventative strategy, then you may plan for a convenient time..For example, if you're a student, you may want to wait for a school break to allow yourself time to heal after the extraction procedure.
