Crutches for 6 weeks: Most meniscal repair surgeries, whether done open or arthroscopically, require up to 6 weeks of limited weight bearing with crutches. Most surgeons allow at least the weight of the foot to touch the ground during that time. Physical therapy is geared at working on quadriceps function/strength and limited knee motion from 0-90 degrees. Bracing in extension for ambulation may be indicated as well.

Unless you are talking about partial removal of the tear instead of repair...then the recovery is much faster with few limitations.

Meniscus repair: After meniscus repair, recovery can often approach 3-4 months. After meniscus resection (removal) the recovery is much shorter (6-8 weeks). Find out which of the two procedures you had done - they are very different.

How long can I wait before doing meniscus repair surgery?

No definite answer: Meniscus tears that are repairable should be repaired as expeditiously as possible. No one can know for certain when or if another injury will occur. Further injury may convert a repairable tear to a tear that cannot be repaired but only partially removed. While waiting for a likely repair, it is prudent to greatly limit any activities that put the knee and meniscus at risk for further injury.

Depends: Depends on the extent of the injury and the type of repair_ open vs arthroscopic can have a different recovery time of weeks. What type of surgery are you having? Is the meniscus completely torn, partially torn, ?

3-4 months: If you had a true repair and plan to return to sports then to be safe it's best to wait 3-4 months for full recovery.

Generally upto 6 mon: Ths, but your surgeon should be advising you as a lot depends on how the surgery went and the state of your tissues and the repair. So heed you surgeons advice as it might be less or even more.
