A 48-year-old member asked:

what is the best way to reduce drowsiness during the day?

Depends on cause: A persistent sleep disorder may promote daytime sleepiness. Restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, and shift work disorder may be a cause, but insomnia of alternative causation must be considered. Also, consider underlying hypothyroidism, anemias, medication adverse effects, excess alcohol, recreational drugs. Treatment is based on etiology.

A 40-year-old member asked:

What is the best method to find basal body temperature?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Neeoo Chin
Fertility Medicine 40 years experience
Not accurate: As you first wake up place a basal body thermometer underneath your tongue for approximately 3 minutes. A digital thermometer is easier and more convenient. Unfortunately basal body temperature taking is very confusing. Any type of movement or any type of activity prior to awakening in taking the temperature will falsely elevated the temperature. Also when the temperature has risen approximately .6 to 1° ovulation has already occurred.

Outsmart them!: To bed earlier. Try variety! eat with them! give them what tastes good like home made protein smoothies with fresh fruit juices and whey protein powder. Almond butter with toast. Avoid breakfast out of a box! make some turkey bacon. Play some upbeat music and get them going. Good luck!

Leave them alone: The best thing to do is to leave them alone. Try to get rid of the offending agent, heat, over bundling; consider an office visit if baby's skin does not improve. It may be eczema or another common childhood rash.

Need Gynecology Eval: Vaginal bleeding is not always your menstrual peiod. Sometimes women get miscarriages that happen about the time that they expect their periods. Also, there are a lot of conditions that can develop in the uterus that can cause bleeding such as fibroids, uterine polyps, cancer, infections, etc. Your sister should go and see her pcp or a gynecologist for an evaluation of her vaginal bleeding.
