Same feelings: Symptoms and feelings like 'pms' are perfectly possible before ovulation, but by definition they would not be pms since they are pre-ovulatory.

PMS: Agree with Dr. Honore. Since PMS technically occurs after ovulation, similar symptoms occurring prior to ovulation would not be PMS.

Eggs vs Edgy: Ovulation is the release of an new egg. Many think of bloating, abdominal cramps, constipation, breast swelling/tenderness, cyclic acne, joint/muscle pain (which can be bad) as pms. They are wrong pms is only the emotional symptoms - irritability, tension, or unhappiness - that appear predictably before the period, reduce or disappear just before or during and remain absent until the next cycle.

I agree that the emotional symptoms of PMS are very important, but they are not the only ones that patients experience. Nor are they the only ones noted in the DSM 4 TR -- or DSM 5 -- for PMDD.
