how does zinc aid in depigmentation of skin?

Hmmm: Zinc and titanium oxides are uv light blockers protecting the skin from harmful solar irradiation. They're extensively used in sunscreens. Zinc is necessary in the production of melanin inside cells. So zinc isn't useful for depigmentation of skin (on it or inside pigment cells). Usually bleaches applied to the skin may cause lightening of color.
