What can be done for a lot of leg pain besides methimazole?

Quinine: If your pain is caused by leg cramps I have found that quinine (tonic water) can help. If they occur at night Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can help the muscles and also help you sleep.
If they cramp up often during the day please get medical attention.
