Hard to know: If frequent trips to the hospital are occurring and her ability to do normal activities of daily living are getting difficult, you should start make plans for comfort care and discuss advance directives with her. Quality versus quantity of life is an important discussion to have with the whole family. We frequently do too much in the end of life when a chronic disease has no hope of improving.
