when do women start experiencing nausea due to pregnancy?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Nikolaos Zacharias
26 years experience Maternal-Fetal Medicine
4-6 weeks.: Nausea of pregnancy is due to the effects of the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). This hormone is what turns the pregnancy test positive and, ergo, nausea can start very early in pregnancy and certainly by 4-6 weeks. Some women actually lose weight in the first trimester because of this. It should gradually improve by 14-16 weeks. Try reglan, phenergan, (promethazine) vitamin b6, small meals, ginger snacks!
