A 31-year-old member asked:

what are the types of a rear carcinoid cancer?

Depends: Rectal (i assume) carcinoids are all neuroendocrine cancers per pathology testing. However, there are subtypes based on degree of aggressiveness of the cancer. Aggressive carcinoids (high-grade) as well as non-aggressive carcinoids (low & intermediate grade) can be seen and differ in their tendency to spread to other organs.

Carcinoid Tumor: Ano rectal carcinoid tumors are rare - only 1-2 % of ano rectal cancers. Small ones can be treated endoscopic ally, larger ones require rectal excisional surgery. Carcinoid s arise from neuroendocine cells, which are similar to nerve cells. Tumors less than 1.0 cm rarely metastasize and are cured by excision.

What is the difference in the various stages of colon cancer?

Survival, but.....: Used to be, the short answer was simply survival risk with stage 1 having the best prognosis and stage IV the worst. While stages 1/2 still have the highest survival rates but improved surgical techniques and chemotherapy and i'd add lifestyle changes, have leveled the playing field greatly. Colon cancer, even advanced is often quite treatable.

Hydroquinone cream: Try hydroquinone cream. Rub in a small amount 2 times each day. You can find a 2% hydroquinone cream over the counter in most pharmacies. Natural liquorice extract is another treatment that works but is usually not as effective.

It's only for some: Provenge (sipuleucel-t) is used in a very specific clinical situation with prostate cancer--definitely not indicated for everyone. The best treatment depends on the stage and grade of the cancer.
