Dr. Charlotte Magnussen

Rest: Pregnancy is associated with mild swelling for feet and ankles especially as the pregnancy approaches term. Excessive swelling can be a symptom of pre eclampsia and you should consult your caregiver. In general swelling can be managed by keeping feet elevated as much as possible, avoid long periods of sitting or standing , wear support hose and get plenty of rest.

Is facial swelling normal in pregnancy?

Dr. Chukwuma Onyeije
Specializes in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
No: Swelling of any type is caused by body fluid in places where it normally should not be. When you are pregnant your body produces more blood cells and more serum (the fluid that blood cells float in). This increase in cells and fluid are important for the developing baby, but it can also lead to swelling during pregnancy. Extra fluid accounts for about a quarter of the weight that a woman gains.

How long will the redness and swelling on my hand and feet last (i'm at 24 weeks)?

Dr. Sheila Goodman

Until after delivery: If you already have significant swelling, you can expect it to continue until a couple of weeks after delivery. It will probably vary from day-to-day, depending on diet, activity level and weather. It will generally get worse after delivery for a few days and finally resolve 2-6 weeks after delivery.

How is pain from a fracture treated?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Brandon Macy
Podiatry 41 years experience
First and foremost: The fracture has to be immobilized by a cast or splint. That alone will make things a lot better. After that, there are pain medications to help deal with the early days following the injury. The pain will ease up considerably, long before the fracture has completely healed.
