what happens when someone takes homeopathic medicine?

It depends: If someone selects a homeopathic medicine haphazardly, possibly nothing may happen. If a well-trained homeopath takes the case and prescribes the medicine, it catalyzes relief from the symptoms that were bothering the person. Rarely, symptoms can temporarily intensify when the person's own healing system is stimulated. Over time, there is gradual return to health on all levels.

Water: Infinity. Homeopathy is the use of placebo - there is nothing in the drugs, so they will take infinitely long to work.
