Normal: Human growth hormone naturally occurs in your body. Complications can occur with supplements due to levels beyond normal physiology, bad chemical sources, or negative feedback from your own body system when you supplement with an outside agent.

Species specific: Hi. Growth hormone is one of the rare hormones with species specificity. Insulin from cows, pigs, and salmon work in humans. Not so with growth hormone. Other species' growth hormones will not bind to and activate the human growth hormone receptor. Human growth hormone is the human gene expressed in bacteria.

Growth hormone: Genotropin (human growth hormone) is growth hormone and is indicated in children with growth hormone deficiency to help them grow. It has much less of a role in adults, but can sometimes be helpful in adults who have had pituitary disease and have very low somatomedin C levels.
A 46-year-old member asked:

What negative effects of human growth hormone are there?

1 doctor answer6 doctors weighed in
Dr. David Sneid
Endocrinology 41 years experience
All of them: There are no positive effects. Growth hormone in adults that don't need it can lead to diabetes, pancreatitis, skeletal pain, headache, gynecomastia and a host of medical problems. Plus it's very expensive, requires daily injections, isn't covered by your insurance, and would probably have to be obtained on the black market, so who knows what you'e be injecting?
