Is human growth hormone really a steroid?

Dr. Cayce Jehaimi
Pediatric Endocrinology 21 years experience
No: Human growth hormone is not a steroid but a member of the protein based peptide family of hormones.
Dr. Thomas Namey
Rheumatology 48 years experience
While no...: Hgh is not a steroid, but a peptide hormone produced by the pituatary gland. It does have potent anabolic properties which are synergistic with anabolic steroids, ie. Testosterone. It is widely used by professional athletes in every sport, because it can only be detected using a blood test., not a urine test. So it has complementary actions with steroids, albeit illegal in sports!
