Tumor lysis: When leukemias and lymphomas are treated it can release uric acid and this can injure the kidney. Also sometimes hypotension (low blood pressure) can occur leading to decreased blood flow to the kidney leading to acute renal failure. We typically use medications such as Allopurinol or Rasburicase to try and prevent tumor lysis.
