what can i do if my son was diagnosed with leaky gut syndrome?

1 doctor answer
Dr. David Stein
23 years experience Colon and Rectal Surgery
It is unclear....: What leaky gut syndrome really is. The term is often used by alternative medicine practitioners and does not usually apply to any particular medical diagnosis. The term comes from the belief that toxins from the gut leak because the wall of the gut is not functioning properly. There are specific tests that analyze absorption so i would try to confirm the diagnosis and then treat accordingly.

I think Dr. Stein's assessment is fair. It's probably real; there are tests that involve absorption of sugars. If Junior has some grave presenting complaint such as autism, and you've been asked to pay a lot of money to have "leaky gut syndrome" treated as the cause, talk to some other folks you know to be trustworthy.
