How can you tell the difference between chigger and mosquito bites?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Ellen Turner
19 years experience in Dermatology
Duration.: Typidally chigger bites last a lot longer than mosquito bites (usually 2-4 weeks). They are very red (not pink) and tend to occur in areas where skin touches skin that have possibly been covered by clothing. Itching is variable between the 2 so that is not a good way to tell the difference.
