Is it true that you don't get resuscitated if your in an accident if your on the organ donation list?

Dr. Barry Browne
General Surgery 35 years experience
No: If anything, being an organ donor should increase your chances of getting resuscitated since resuscitation increases the possibility that the transplantable organs will remain healthy enough until they can be procured. Donation can only occur after the donor is pronounced dead by a trained health care professional.

My husband was in a serious car accident and the doctor said he has a "hemopericardium." what is that?

Blood around heart: The heart is surrounded by a sac. A hemopericardium is when blood is contained in that sac and surrounds the heart.

Traumatic hemopericardium needs monitoring. If your husband was admitted to the hospital, he likely had cardiac ECHO exams to monitor the pericardium fluid and his heart function. Occasionally the fluid needs to be removed.

Dr. Ernest Block
Trauma Surgery 35 years experience
Trauma Surgeon: Emergency medicine physicians do much of the initial diagnostic work on the majority of trauma in this country. In organized trauma systems, severely injured patients are taken to trauma centers where a trauma surgeon directed team, including an emergency medicine colleague, participate in the management.

I agree. If a patient is admitted to the hospital though, they are often admitted to a trauma surgeon and many other physicians assist them in caring for these patients. They can be quite complex to care for.
