A 48-year-old member asked:

do they have to break your nose when you get a nose job?

Depends: If the upper portion of the nose has to be straightened or a large bump removed then the nasal bones may need to be cut during rhinoplasty.
Dr. Joseph Campanelli
Facial Plastic Surgery 29 years experience
No: The decision is based upon the amount of deviation of the nasal bones. It is possible to file the bone to give the appearance of being straight in some cases.
Dr. J David Holcomb
Facial Plastic Surgery 29 years experience
Not always: So called "breaking" the nose during rhinoplasty (nose job) is really a very controlled cut or separation of the nasal bones (called an osteotomy) so that they can be moved inward to narrow the nose. Rhinoplasty does not always require narrowing of the nose. This depends on the pre-existing shape of the nose and the reshaping goals that you and your surgeon agree upon before surgery.
Dr. Suzanne Galli
ENT and Head and Neck Surgery 24 years experience
Rhinoplasty: In some procedures, cutting the bones through osteotomies is required. Be sure to have your nose evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Do you think that getting a nose job at 18 is worth it if you broke your nose and it healed a little crookedly?

Individual decision: If the broken and now deformed nose is causing you difficulty with breathing or other functional issues, you should have it repaired if recommended. If it is for aesthetics (looks), then that is a person decision and would be determined by self esteem and personal well-being issues and you and your family and your pcp can discuss this along with any ENT or plastic surgeon you see.
A 47-year-old member asked:

Is nose job cheaper to do out of the country?

Dr. Mike Bowman
ENT and Head and Neck Surgery 19 years experience
Cheaper but riskier: You may be able to get a rhinoplasty out of the country for a fee that is less, but the risks are much greater. Standards of care (surgical equipment, operating facilities, anesthesia, etc) may not be adequate. In addition, follow up could be compromised or reduced, especially if you have some complications. Saving up and spending a little more now could save you a lot of trouble in the future.

How long is the recovery time after a nose job?

2 weeks...: Will get a large part of the swelling and most bruising gone. Some swelling still remains at this point but most patients are able to return to work at that point. There is not much pain so if you don't mind te swelling/bruising you can return earlier. Ask your rhinoplasty surgeon for details.

Nose job: Nose surgery is if done by skillful surgeon(plastic surgeon or ENT surgeon) can give the patient a nice result , providing they know what they are asking for and if the doctor agree. You can shorten the nose, remove a bony hump, narrow the nostrils, and can open the air way. You need to have a genuine need for a nose job to be happy with the results.
