A 37-year-old member asked:
how important is it for a woman to regularly examine here breasts for unnatural lumps?
1 doctor answer • 2 doctors weighed in

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered
Pathology 44 years experience
Very: A woman knows her breasts better than anyone else, including of course her physician, and before the mammogram promotion, women who did self-exam as they should at the same time each month very seldom died of breast cancer. A dominant mass found needs a physician office visit. Call me old-fashioned, but i believe every woman needs to do this even today.

No: Not necessarily. Breast size in a non-pregnant woman is mostly determined by the amount of breast fat, not gland tissue.
