How can you prevent getting used to pain medication?

Short term use : Taking pain medications for a short period of time after surgery or trauma will be most probably safe. If you have to take medications on an ongoing basis, avoid long-acting opioids, take medications for pain only and not other symptoms (such as sleep disturbsnce) and reduce the amount as much as possible.
