Are rotavirus infections highly contagious?

Yes: Yes, they are highly contagious, and are spread via the fecal to oral route. That can happen if a child doesn't wash their hands after using the bathroom, and then tough their mouth. Touching a contaminated area, and then touching the mouth can also cause infection. Rotavirus can live for hours on human hands, and days on dry hard surfaces, so washing hands is key to prevent transmission.
