Cold sores: Generally it is a cold sore, although people can have dry lips that crack and scab over and i would recommend some kind of lip balm or chapstick to moisten the lips!

A 23-year-old member asked:
Why dose the skin on my lips look bluish and peel ?
2 doctor answers • 10 doctors weighed in

Dr. Latisha Smith answered
Wound care 38 years experience
Thin and oil free: The skin on the lips is different from skin on the rest of your face. It appears bluish because capillaries and very small veins called venules all together give the appearance of more circulation than the rest of the facial skin. The peeling happens because there are no oil gland in the lips causing them to be chronically dry. Regular use of chap stick or something similar will decrease peeling.

Highly vascular: The lips heal quickly because the tissue has a great blood supply. I hope this information is helpful.

A 19-year-old female asked:
2cms of skin all around my lips inflames, irritates & turns very red, very often, then becomes flaky and dry. Not sure what the cause is. Please help?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Albert Pizzo answered
Family Medicine 60 years experience
Inflamed lips: You may be having some type of contact dermatitis due to lip stick or lip gloss sensitivity, or something you are using on your face. Try stopping everything, even change toothpaste you use on your lips or face to see if it helps. You may also be having seborrheic dermatitis or some skin disorder. If it continues see your doctor or a dermatologist for diagnosis and help.
