Yes: Immediately after there will be inflammation from the procedure especially if it had been awhile since your last cleaning. Make sure to keep brushing and flossing even when it is sore. A few days it should be gone.

Yes, it can be: It depends on how much tartar and calculus had to be removed. Often the swelling of the gum tissues will go down in about a day.
