Meat Sallmonella: Anything that comes in contact with the preparation area in items that have been contaminated with salmonella place you at risk. Poultry is most notorius. Some of the recent outbreaks have been from fruits and vegetables irrigated with contaminated water sources.

Treamtment: Treatment with anti-biotic that has the ability to fight the infection. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is one that covers, but there have been more and more instances of drug resistance so a culture should be obtained prior to starting the antibiotic.

Antibiotics are not recommended for otherwise healthy people with uncomplicated salmonellosis. We generally use antibiotics only in infants, the elderly, immunocompromised people or those with infection outside the GI tract.
