It Depends: With type 1 diabetes (dm), Insulin can only replace insulin. Many with type 2 dm go on to also need Insulin when the cells which make it ultimately fail. Only Insulin replacement can address that. If you have type 2 diabetes oral medication works for awhile. Best mgmnt is lifestyle change including diet/exercise. As long as healthy lifestyles permit, some can stop meds if their docs permit.
