No: Antioxidants are intimately involved in the prevention of cellular damage. However, the role of antioxidant supplementation in a well nourished athlete is controversial. They will not help so eat a balanced diet at least 2 hours before exercising.

Antioxidant benefit: Exercise does break down tissue - broken down muscle will oxidize a bit. And it loosens oxidative molecules into the circulation -- so yes, eating food high in anti-oxidants after exercise can benefit your body and your muscles. These include: Fruits of color, veggies of color, whole fruit/veg juices with no added sugar, such as V8 Fusion and NAKEN brands. For protein - best is egg whites.

Dr. Bac Nguyen
Family Medicine 23 years experience
Cardio conditioning: There are many causes of cardiac inflammation--infections, drug/chemo, radiation effects, excess alcohol, rheumatologic diseases, uncontrolled diabetes etc..While exercise itself does not get rid of inflammation in the heart, it may improve heart function and general health. It can help lower cholesterol/sugar, blood pressure and thus better heart-health. Other diseases must be treated. Good luck.
