SOB is SOB: The mechanism in both cases is elevated left atrial pressure with pulmonary vascular congestion so the symptom is the same:shortness of breath. How you get there is what differs in valve disease vs chd.
Dr. Francis Uricchio
Cardiology 38 years experience
Cause: The symptoms will feel the same but the cause could be quite different. When the heart is not getting enough blood, it relaxes poorly after each heart beat. This can cause shortness of breath. In advanced stages, blocked heart arteries cause heart damage, pumping dysfunction, and heart failure. Valve disease can cause relaxation problems and heart damage as well despite normal circulation.
