Many things: Though typically in the movies it is something dramatic, generally in real life infertility is from pelvic inflammatory disease or other infections, or due to ovarian failure for some other reason. Likewise, infertility can be on the male side, with troubles with viable sperm for a variety of reasons.

A 24-year-old member asked:

Whats the average number of children a woman can have?

No answer: A woman can conceivably get pregnant everytime she ovulates. If she carries the child for 9-10 months she could have 25 or more children over the course of her menstruating lifetime. I had a patient who had been pregnant 21 times and delivered 20 live children. But that puts a heavy burden on your body and there is now evidence that close spacing of pregnancies may increase the risk of autism.

Projected height: The anticipated height of the offspring is adjusted for the height of both. In general, the mothers+ dads height , divided by 2 + 2.5 inch = expected boy adult height. Mom ht + dad ht , divided by 2 minus 2.5 inch is expected girl adult height. Medical conditions, poor diet, etc can impair growth & this general rule is usually accurate within an inch or so.

The same as at 20yo: Genetic disorders are just that. They come from the genetic makeup of the donor male of female, whatever their age at conception. There is increased risk of chromosomal (structural) defects as the egg ages. Women are born with eggs in suspended animation in the ovaries. At menses they begin to mature & release until they're gone.Life's accumulated toxic exposures can lead to abnormal chromosomes.

35: If you take one thousand pregnant moms at 33 about 5 of them have children with chromosomal anomalies. If you do the same when you are 40 the number rises to 25.
