Yes: In fact, shoulder joint replacements are being done though not typically as a first line treatment.

No need: If the problem is painful arthritis, the joint can be safely removed, called a distal clavicle resection. If the joint is unstable because of injured cc ligaments, the ligaments can be reconstructed.
