Kidney stone: When in the kidney where they originate, stones often cause no symptoms. Microscopic blood in the urine or vague unilateral flank discomfort is sometimes experienced with renal stones. When stones pass into the ureter, they typically cause very severe "colic" pain from spasms of the muscular ureter tube. At best the pain is mild but constant when ureteral colic is not occuring, .

Do premature babies need special car seats?

Yes: Every baby born less than 37 weeks gestation should have a car seat trial before discharge from the hospital, to ensure breathing is adequate. The hospital staff should check to see if the car seat you've selected is appropriate for the baby's size, and they should teach you how to use it safely. Baby may need a car bed if s/he fails the car seat test. Always place the car seat rear-facing.

When will my premature baby start reaching developmental milestones on time?

That depends...: It depends on how early your baby was. A premie's development is compared with others who are the same "corrected age" (chronologic age minus the number of weeks or months the baby was born early) until age two, when most will be "caught up" developmentally with their chronologic age-mates (babies born on the same date as they were). If a baby is only mildly preterm, he may catch up earlier.

Outsmart them!: To bed earlier. Try variety! eat with them! give them what tastes good like home made protein smoothies with fresh fruit juices and whey protein powder. Almond butter with toast. Avoid breakfast out of a box! make some turkey bacon. Play some upbeat music and get them going. Good luck!

A 40-year-old male asked:

What. Is lowest kidney function can get before dialysis is required?

2 doctor answers3 doctors weighed in
Dr. James Cain
Nephrology and Dialysis 36 years experience
GFR 10: This differs for everyone but in a relatively narrow range. Some patients with cardiac disease benefit from dialysis at higher GFR (low creatinine), african americans seem to tolerate higher creatinine without symptoms. In general convert the creatinine to egfr (online calculator) and expect dialysis at egfr less than 15 ml/min.
